Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
RIP Whitney Houston.
I really don’t think it’s a matter of whether you liked her music or not. Personally, I wasn’t a big fan, but my mother and sister loved her more than anything, so Whitney Houston was a constant presence in my household growing up.
And, a few years back, my sister and I very unexpectedly met her and Bobby Brown at the BP gas station, just a few weeks before we heard about the divorce. Even though Bobby had a pretty rotten attitude towards us (particularly my sister, who, of course, acted like a starstruck kid), Whitney was the sweetest woman. She pretty much stopped what she was doing to spend some time with my sister, who was just the happiest kid on Earth in that moment. I was more so a bystander, but made a dorky comment or two myself about The Bodyguard admittedly. She was dressed down in sweats, no makeup, scarf on her head, and felt like such a real, down-to-earth person; no “diva” or “celebrity” complex about her whatsoever.
So, with that being said, I’m very sad to hear about her passing. Death’s a very elusive thing for most of us, and hearing about the death of someone you’ve either known, known by association, or simply shared memorable moments with… It makes it that much more concrete. I wish the best for her daughter and family. Rest in peace, Whitney… Thanks for the memory.
